Wired to connect

Something I read today: We are wired to connect.

I talk plenty of being a loner and cherishing solitude but I know in my heart that nothing in this world would be worthwhile if we could not connect with each other. It is why my heart yearns for intimacy, depth, and community.

Imagine if you couldn’t share that delicious meal you just ate, that tv show that brought you to tears, that far off destination that opened your eyes to how small your little bubble is, that new love interest that you for sure believe is the love of your life or that jack ass who cut you off in traffic?

It’s why solitary confinement is the worst punishment imaginable; you go stark raving mad with no one to share this weird and wonderful human experience with.

It reminded me to take a moment and slow down so that I can smile at the stranger passing me by, start a conversation as I am waiting for my food at the sub shop, call my dad on a whim, spend Sundays going to the farmers market with my mom, giggle like a fool when having a slumber party with my niece and do my best to make time for friends.

It reminded me that the greatest place to pour all my love, joy and gratitude into is in people; these kooky, odd, and beautiful people.

To our growth,
Jean.
