Guard your association like your life depends on it, because it does.
Social neuroscience tells us that those who we are repeatedly around over the course of time can sculpt the circuitry, shape and size of our brains. And in my view, our hearts.
We esteem too lightly the people we allow to speak into our lives and influence our words, thoughts and actions then go on to wonder why we are not living our best. Now does that mean the blame should be placed on others with where we are or where we are not? Of course you know the answer is no.
I also understand how difficult it can feel to be more intentional about our association because it would mean having to assess our current sphere of influence and being willing to embrace the truth that maybe we are surrounded by people who don’t actually do us any damn good. Those people may be our own family and close friends.
We can’t downplay the fact though that, as social creatures, who we are has just as much to do with who we are with.
& if there is one thing I know about you: its that you are worthy of being around people who see the greatness within you, confirm just how much you are loved, and inspire you to live out your dreams.
To our growth,
Jean.
