Trees need to grow deeper roots if they are to reach greater heights

We all get to the point in any endeavour, if we are truly committed for the long term, where our sense of purpose, intention and why is forgotten or breaks down.

I reflect on some of the major decisions I’ve made over the past few years, many of which have been complete lifestyle and career changes, and can see the pattern of this cycle over and over. Somewhere along the way I inevitably hit a wall, I feel paralysed, and lose a sense of purpose.

The more I grow on this path of self actualisation, the more I am realising that that is just part of the process.

If we really want to hit gold and find depths of mastery & expression, with whatever we do, it requires us to go the extra miles and dig way deep! There is a refinement process that needs to take place, and part of that is wading through the mental and emotional sludge and asking yourself the hard hitting questions. One of which is, “Why am I doing this?” and if you are like me then you are adding in some very colourful language in there as well.

From the other side of this questioning and doubt, I’ve realised that the breakdown is really just an opportunity to strengthen my foundation and it only feels hard because of how exposing it can be. We can only fill in the gaps, cracks, and weaknesses when we know exactly where and what they are.

I’m reminded that even trees need to find deeper roots if they are to grow to their true heights, and it comforts me to know that if my foundation shakes, not only does it mean I am willing to grow to my fullest potential but its an opportunity to make sure the bedrock of my life is set right.

To our growth,
Jean.
