Beauty finds those who are seeking

Sir John Eccles once said, “I want you to realize that there exists no color in the natural world, and no sound – nothing of this kind; no textures, no patterns, no beauty, no scent.”

It rocked my world a little to hear that, and truly digest the implication of a statement.

I don’t believe human beings are the only animals that can enjoy and appreciate the beauty of this world, but I do believe we are perhaps some of the more sentimental, sensitive, and romantic of the animal kingdom.

What other animal looks at a sunset and cries?
Or hears the sounds of the ocean waves and ponders its existence?
Or smells something familiar and, instead of needing to register danger, is immediately nostalgic reminiscing about their childhood?

I am not sure if other animals are capable of this, I am only human so I can only speak for myself.

What it helps me realize is that most of the beauty in this world, I hesitate to say all, is only given meaning and life because of the one who beholds it.

It brings home a simple but profound truth: If you are willing to look for beauty, you will find it.

To our growth,
Jean.
