Is maturing making decisions that a version of you 10 years down the road will benefit from and not just the version of you standing today? If it is, then somewhere along the way, to my awe and surprise, I have matured!
Most of us believe making better choices for our future includes things like growing a retirement fund, finding a stable career or job, finding a suitable life partner so you don’t end up old and alone, and overall just playing it safe & sound.
Did anyone else shudder or was it just me?
What if making decisions for our future selves is so much more than that? What if its about creating a deep sense of fulfillment in our lives? Foregoing the beaten path so we can discover our own? Taking scary decisive action into the unknown because we are listening to our divine calling and not the lull of conformity? Leaping with faith and trusting we will land on our own two feet?
Idealistic? Maybe. Head in the clouds? Perhaps.
I’m not saying be foolish, and make rash choices. What I am saying is: there is a reason cliches like the one above are said over and over again. There is something innate in us, as human beings, that longs for a richer, deeper, and more colorful life.
When that call for greater beckons us, into a future of our making, are we willing to listen?
To our growth,
Jean.
