I had a realisation the other day that struck like a lightning bolt, hot and furious, like only a moment of clarity and revelation could. The profundity of this truth boiled down to this: the truth will set you free.
So simple, so cliche, yet so transformative.
But this transformation will elude so many of us simply because we insist on living our lives with masks, facades, caricatures, delusions and lies. We cover things up, we don’t let ourselves be seen, we’re not honest with others, and we’re certainly not honest with ourselves.
On that day, I abandoned the mask. I trusted in the safety I had built with my closest confidants and got real about what I was going through. I didn’t embellish, I didn’t defend or hide, I didn’t try to brush things off like it was no big deal and I wasn’t being affected. I unveiled my weakness and imperfections, and asked for the support I needed.
And in that moment, I am telling you, I felt the very thing I’ve been chasing all these years. I felt free.
There is a vital piece of wisdom embedded in this experience for me: Freedom happens when we allow the full truth of who we are in the present moment to shine through, to be expressed, to be seen.
It has never been about chasing, it has always been more about just being.
To our growth,
Jean.
